Yorkshire Rugby Series Rules and Regulations – Boys :
Year 7 – SPECIFIC RULES
- Maximum 12-a-side with 5 forwards
- Played on half pitch
- Size 4 Balls
- Max Playing Time – 70 minutes
- Strike and no push
- No Line Outs – FREE Pass
- All restarts Free Pass
- Scrum half MUST not move past the centre of the scrum
- No squeeze ball or fly hacking
- Fend off below armpit
- Kicking from hand allowed BUT handling encouraged
- NO kicking at goal
Year 8 – SPECIFIC RULES
- Maximum 13-a-side with 6 forwards
- Played on half pitch
- Size 4 Balls
- Max Playing Time – 80 minutes
- Contested 6 player scrums, No 8 pick up
- No Line Outs – FREE Pass
- Drop Kick Start/Re-start
- Scrum half MUST NOT past the centre of the scrum
- Fend-off below armpit and fly hacking allowed
- Kicking from hand allowed BUT handling encouraged
- NO kicking at goal
Year 9 – SPECIFIC RULES
- Maximum 10-a-side
- Played on a half pitch
- Size 4 Balls
- Max Playing Time – 80 minutes
- Drop Kick Start/Re-start
- Uncontested line out (Max 4 player, plus thrower)
- Contested 5 player scrum, with safety encouraged
- Scrum half MUST not move past the centre of the scrum
- Kicking from hand allowed BUT handling encouraged
- Fend-off below armpit and fly hacking allowed
- NO kicking at goal
Year 10 – SPECIFIC RULES
- Maximum 10-a-side
- Played on a half pitch
- Size 5 Balls
- Max Playing Time – 80 minutes

Further Rules & Regulations
- All players should play in their own age group unless written permission obtained from parents to play ‘up’ one year group (RFU stipulation).
- However, 1st XV teams are likely to be comprised of students from Y11, Y12 and Y13.
- All schools are to promote the SSP RU ‘Code of Conduct’ for Players, Spectators and Coaches.

Rules and Regulations – Girls :
YEAR 7 & 8 combined (Under 13)
- Max player 12 a side but can be changed to 10’s or 7’s dependent on numbers
- Unlimited rolling substitutions
- 5 or 3 player scrums strike, no push
- Half a full size pitch
- No-Hand-offs
- No Kicking out of hand or for touch
- No line-out
- Kick-Offs and 22 drops replaced by tap free kick
- After a tackle, only one player from each team can join the ruck or maul. The most players that can be in a ruck or maul are two players from each side – the ball carrier, the tackler, plus two additional player from each side.
YEAR 9 & 10 combined (Under 15)
- Maximum 10-a-side
- 5 Player Scrums – UNCONTESTED
- Half a full size pitch
- Fend Off below armpit
- Kicking allowed but handling encouraged
- Kick-Offs and 22 drops replaced by tap free kick
- 4 players in the line out, no ‘long’ or ‘quick’ throws
- No limit on number of players who can join a ruck or maul situation
YEAR 11,12 & 13 combined (Under 18)
- Maximum 10-a-side
- 5 Player Scrums – CONTESTED if all players are suitably trained
- Half a full size pitch
- Fend Off below armpit
- Kicking allowed but handling encouraged
- Kick-Offs and 22 drops replaced by tap free kick
- 4 players in the line out, no ‘long’ or ‘quick’ throws
- No limit on number of players who can join a ruck or maul situation
